Thanks Prabha! This was about A4. When you say scale up what do you have in mind? A3? Or A2? :-) I do have some plans.

Your comment and suggestion perfect about the white stuff. I tried to depict the knit of the high neck sweater the model is wearing. This paper is too small for that detail and also I got the colour wrong. Will rework it a bit to learn.
There is this shop in Bangalore which sells these in various sizes. It is a bit soft but good for dry pastels, not too much bite.

Wow, Anil! Great start! I just had to click on it.

That white/gray area under the chin, I wonder if you need to pull some of the background color into it, or simply leave it black. Also, I think the left part of the background works better (where its reddish brown) because of how you have gently smudged/'de-focused' it, which helps send it to the back. And wherever did you get black handmade paper... never heard of it!
