Medium: 8B STEADTLER Mars Lumograph Pencil on 130gsm Artist paper
Size: 42x59cm

Every morning when my father wakes up, the sunrays fall on him with renewed vigour, bringing in hope of a new beginning - of better ideas…of enhanced sensitiveness towards the deserving. He eagerly holds the newspaper, expecting to read some encouraging news hitting the headlines. However, invariably and more frequently than he would like it, he is greeted by news depicting the sad state of affairs - one more scam…one more tainted public figure…one more example of government incapability and impotency... He holds the news paper to realize that the world has not changed much…It’s the same old story in fresh words, in some other part of the world, involving some more misjudgments, corrupting more innocent lives…and he exclaims…it’s the same old story…the world hasn’t changed much…until he picks up the news paper of the next day!

Hi Soman, I had missed the response. Yes I did see the message - it is below the photograph on the left hand side of the paper.

But I don't understand this policy of 8B only. But why? such a thing is perhaps ok for a student to learn his craft better. But for an accomplished artist like you, it is an unnecessary limitation. The policy should be (of course IMHO) "I will use whatever necessary to achieve what the picture needs!"

Soman, You are setting new standards in pencil sketch. Just AWESOME!

I noticed all highlight lines in the Full Size. Brilliant.

I love all those fine shade for the light contrast in the face and the coarse vertical strokes for the wooden door.

Thank you so much Kiran

@Anil: You know what, I was really thinking of scripting the news paper with more of my thoughts...so that with enough magnification...one could read it...but then when I realised the number of columns I have to fill...I gave up...more over my policy to use only one grade of pencil; i.e. 8B (which are quite thick) and no other (ideally a 0.5mm pencil lead thickness) came in the way as I also realised that writing alphabets in the thick 8B pencil would take me ages....

But then I did one thing...I was able to write one message on the news paper...Can you see it...It says "make a difference"...Try and find out!!!

Stunning work! I felt that if I expanded it enough I can even read the news.

Unfair! - That was my first thought when I saw this Soman. After quite some time I started a pencil portrait today and this almost made my give up! . :-)

Actually it goads me to give up my impatience and make the best I can. So, thanks.
