A community for people who love the Visual Arts
It was a unique meeting for sure. Green every where with wonderful background music from birds - IIT,Chennai. Thanks for Giridhar for inviting us. We met at Durga Peeliamman temple and went around IIT to know the place around. Finally we settled at the temple itself.
Alok is the new member joined us for the day. It was interesting to know the temple status before 15 to 20 years from Nithya and Kalpana. Prabha and Ashok choose a nice place for sketching where there was a old woden bero and chair with great light (as if studio light). Ganapathy presented a brief session about composition with his wonderful sketch of the temple with tree. Kalpana's pen and wash was a treat to eyes. Upasana tried few perspectives and happy. I tried the temple dome and few quick gestures.
The place to be explored again. It is mandatory to go there with some IITian's company.
Dear friends, Share you related art works and photos in this thread.
Thank you Murali for this report. I very much miss these events and hope to start attending regularly in a few weeks time. For now, I look forward to your report of each event and the posts into it from all the attendees.
I used to be a very regular and frequent visitor to the IIT Madras/Chennai campus around 35 to 45 years ago and would have loved to explore it once again. Your photographs reminded me of how lush the campus is. Perhaps we will go there again to sketch some day in the future.
We too miss you Balaji! Hope to see you soon.
Very nice sketches Murali. Good variety of subjects!
Nice sketches Murali. I like the one of the temple most, especially the ease with which you have captured the essence of this structure. I also like your sketch of the leaves very much.
fantastic how many sketches you managed in the limited time. I really admire your graphite skills. The leaves are my favourite!
Thank you GS.
Thank you Balaji.
Thank you Kalpana!
Very nice sketches Murali ! I admire the skill u have, to do so many sketches at a time.
Wonderful compose of the temple GS!
Lovely gesture work!
I very much like your second sketch. Seeing it makes me want to immediately try out a few of my own. :)
In the first one (of the temple) the curved line cutting the far bottom corner of the temple structure and the shed next to it creates for me the illusion that the tree is located on a somewhat higher ground. My recollection is that the area is flat. Of course there may be other reasons for having that line exactly as it is in your sketch, but this is how I read the sketch. Other than that I think it is a very nice sketch.
Murali, Balaji Thank you!
@Balaji, great memory and observation! You are right about the elevation. the curved pathway is elevated and the tree in the foreground is indeed higher than the temple in the front. the other structure of the temple towards the back is more or less in the same elevation. I really found this very interesting and was the reason for choosing this view :)
